HONORARY COLONEL DAVE DEVALL
Well-known TV weatherman Dave Devall was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 436 Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton, ON in December 2006.
Honorary Colonel Devall was born in Toronto, ON. In his youth he began a career with the Royal Canadian Air Force but during his training he was introduced to the science of meteorology, which was to become his life's vocation.
He attended the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University and, while still a student, worked at CFPL-TV and CFRB. After graduating from Ryerson in 1958, he worked at CHEX-TV in Peterborough. In 1961 when at CFTO, which was to become CTV Toronto, was launched, he joined their news team as a weather analyst and presenter. To this day he remains their senior and top weatherman. Spurred by his enthusiasm for this science, he keeps up-to-date on the rapid advances in observation technology, as well as combining it with his avocation - flying.
Recently retired, his more than 48 year career as a TV weather forecaster is now recorded in the Guiness Book of World Records.
Honorary Colonel Devall holds a private pilot's license and frequently makes airborne observations and video of weather phenomena. Honorary Colonel Devall is a member of the World Meteorological Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to facilitate worldwide data sharing and influence international policies regarding meteorology, operational hydrology and related geophysical sciences. He is a popular speaker and frequently acts as master of ceremonies for local charities and organizations. Honorary Colonel Devall resides in Woodville, ON.
