The Canon Scott Trophy

Marching Formations of 15 or Less

The Canon Scott Trophy was donated to The Warriors' Day Parade in 1937 by the Originals Club of Toronto. The trophy was established in the name of Canada's beloved First World War padre, Canon Frederick George Scott CMG, DSO, Senior Chaplain, First Canadian Division, Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Canon Scott was with Canada's troops continuously in Europe from 1914 at the age of 54 through to 1918. He touched many lives. He was the most decorated of Canada's WWI padres.

For many years Canon Scott attended the Warriors' Day Parade and presented this trophy to the winning unit. His presence was always met with enthusiatic cheers from the veterans, many of whom had met him during their wartime experiences. He was constantly asked for autographs from veterans and spectators alike.

His five sons all served in WWI. His son Henry was killed in the Battle of the Somme on October 21st, 1916.

Canon Scott published his WWI memoirs, "The Great War As I Saw It," in 1922. Noted Canadian military historian and author, Norm Christie of CEF Books reprinted these memoirs along with an excellent and authoritative introduction in 1999. The book is currently in print and may be obtained through, CEF Books.

Canon Scott died on January 19th, 1944 and is buried at the Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal.

Each year when The Canon Scott Trophy is presented to the winning units, our thoughts go back to the times as they must have been on the battlefields in WWI when Canon Scott brought comfort, inspiration and hope to Canada's troops. We remember all that he did. A true Canadian hero.
