The Lord Mayors' (London, England) Cup

Largest Marching Unit on Parade

In 1957, the 629th Lord Mayor of London (England), Col. Sir George James Cullum Welch visited Toronto and presented an antique silver loving cup to the CNE.

It was the wish of the London Corporation that the cup become a CNE trophy competed for annually in some appropriate event.

Subsequent to the Lord Mayor's visit, the CNE had the cup mounted on a base and donated the new Lord Mayors' Cup to the Warriors' Day Parade.

The plate affixed to the base of the trophy is engraved "This Fine Loving Cup Was Made In The City In Ave Mary Lane AD 1794 By A Grand Craftsman Named Henry Chawner A Liveryman of Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths."
