Best Cavalry Contingent on Parade
Founded in 2009 by The Warriors' Day Parade Council, The Brigadier Memorial Trophy is awarded to the Best Cavalry Contingent on Parade. A magnificent nine-year old Belgian draft cross, Brigadier was a loyal and dedicated member of Toronto Police Services Mounted Unit tragically struck down deliberately by a motorist in 2006 while in the line of duty. Brigadier served with the Toronto Police Service for five years and during that time became a well known member of the unit among the citizens of Toronto. Brigadier participated in the Warriors' Day Parade. Mounted units have been a very important part of the Warriors' Day Parade starting with the first parade in 1921 and remind us of the key role that these magnificent animals and their riders have and continue to play in protecting us both in times of war and in fulfilling important policing operations. We remember Brigadier and the thousands of other horses who have given their lives in the line of duty. Read more about the Toronto Police Mounted Unit on our Parade Stories Page.......
